Job Opportunities at the Suffolk County Historical Society

Librarian: Schedule: 20 hours a week, Wednesday - Saturday 11:30am to 4:30pm.
Job description: Assist the Head Librarian in organizing and managing the library and archival collections; maintaining a card catalogue file that accurately reflects the Society’s library and archival collections; conducting research and answering requests for historical and genealogical information; maintaining the physical resources (books and room furnishings) in an orderly fashion; and serving the research needs of the library’s users. (Full job description will be emailed upon request.) Position Qualifications: Masters Degree in Library and Information Sciences preferred. Previous library experience will also be considered.

Museum/Library Assistant: Schedule: 16 hours a week, Wednesday - Saturday 12:30pm to 4:30pm.
Job description: Entry-level position assisting the Library staff with organizing and managing the library and archival collections; assisting with research and exhibit production. (Full job description will be emailed upon request.) Position Qualifications: History or Library/Information Science Degrees or student currently enrolled in one of these majors.

Cleaning Person: One day per week, 10:00am to 2:00 pm. Day of week can be flexible.
Job description: General housekeeping of museum: Floors, restroom, kitchen, dusting exhibitions, polishing display case glass.
